Guarded

When it comes to having your guard up, it definitely applies to more than just relationships. Some people have their guard up when it comes to friendships and working relationships too. I think I’ve always naturally had my guard up, but I saw myself putting it up more and more in the last few years. Maybe it’s something that is needed in the industry I am in because you can’t always be sure who you can trust and who’s playing you for a fool.

It’s sad when you learn to let your guard down for certain people only to be let down and hit with the reality that your guard should have been up in the first place. In the past few years and, even more so, recently, I learned that you can’t expect people to stick around forever and maybe that’s a good reason to keep your guard up. I let people in, get close to them and allow myself to let my guard down with them, only to be disappointed when they disappear later.

Maybe it is better to always have your guard up, no matter what, so you don’t get disappointed in the end.
